About this Site

This site was created to be the next generation of the paper/binder Walterdale Handbook. As the original intention was for the Handbook to be a “living document,” it only makes sense for the project to evolve. With nearly everyone able to access the internet, we have decided the move the master “handbook” and all of its current and future information to this site. We hope to see it grow as more of this valuable documentation is provided by our members, volunteers and Board of Directors.

From the original Handbook:

This handbook was created in response to a need for a reliable source of information as to the many intricacies involved in mounting a production at Walterdale Playhouse. As is the nature with an organization that has been around as long as we have and with so many thousands of volunteers who have passed through the doors, information changes, policies are updated, and best practices continue to evolve.
It is the intent that copies of this handbook be given to all volunteers who work on a production in order to provide them a reliable source of information for some of the most common questions faced at Walterdale. While some of the information is policy, much of what you’ll find are suggestions for best practice that have evolved in response to some of the many quirks and challenges our space provides.
It is also the intent that this handbook be a living document, updated by Boards of Directors to come as policies and practices evolve, or new ones are created. To that note, should you have any questions about or suggestions to improve this handbook, please feel free to contact a member of the Board of Directors with your feedback, as this handbook is only useful when the information herein is clear, accurate, and reflects the needs of the current body of volunteers as we evolve.
This project began in January 2009 and it took over a year to gather and create all the information for the first master draft in July 2010 and would not be possible without the hard work of the Walterdale Theatre Associates’ Boards of Directors of the 2008–2009 and 2009–2010 seasons.
