Preview Performances

Walterdale shows usually run for 10 performances where ticket prices are charged, starting on a Wednesday (Opening Night) and ending on the Saturday 10 days later.

The Monday and Tuesday night prior to Opening are set aside for preview performances, which are designed to give the actors and crew the experience of a full-blown production without the pressure of paying customers.

Monday Director’s Preview & Student Night:

 Audience:

  • Invited guests of the Director
  • Students

Purpose

  • To provide the production an opportunity for dress rehearsal with audience
  • To provide the director an opportunity to evaluate the show and make any changes before Opening Night
  • To reach out to a new audience (students) who might be interested in becoming Walterdale members

Process

  • The Director should inform the Front-of-House Director(s) (FOHD) about the number of invited guests a week prior to the night
  • The FOHD will set aside that number of seats and open up the remaining seating for free to students who can show a valid student ID at the door
  • The Director can speak to the audience beforehand and alert them that this is still technically a rehearsal and that it may be stopped

Tuesday Artist’s Preview:

The Tuesday Artists’ Preview is run in conjunction with the Alberta Society of Artists in the Lobby program.  Walterdale works with a local artist’s group who display and sell art in the Walterdale lobby during the run of each play.  This benefits Walterdale by providing original art for the enjoyment of our guests and by bringing in new potential members and audience with each art show, and is one example of our commitment to the broader community.

Audience

  • Artists presenting in the lobby during the show and their invited guests

Purpose

  • Final dress rehearsal prior to Opening Night
  • Opportunity for Walterdale to reach out to another artistic community
