Comp Ticket Policy

Walterdale values every volunteer and complimentary tickets are provided to each one in order to let them enjoy the results of his or her involvement.  There are many volunteers who contribute their time, energy and talents toward every production.  Many people fill more than one role.  There are also many volunteers who contribute on an ongoing basis to the operation of the theatre such as: the Board, Board Committee members and Casino volunteers.  However, Walterdale is also a theatre and relies on Box Office revenue for a significant portion of its operating budget.

Some notes about Complimentary Tickets:

  • N.B.:  Individuals who are not members in good standing (i.e. current members) are not allowed complimentary tickets to ticketed events.  All volunteers will be asked to purchase a membership, or to volunteer for 10 hours in order to acquire a membership.  If an individual does not purchase a membership, they can be asked if they would like someone to sponsor their membership.
  • Every volunteer on a specific production receives two (2) complimentary tickets to that production regardless of their position and regardless of how many positions they may have filled.  Eligible volunteers are determined by the Production Manager (for production) and the Front-of-House Director (for FOH roles)
  • Every volunteer who fills a Board position, or fulfils a significant role on a Board committee, receives two (2) complimentary tickets to every production.  Eligible volunteers are determined by the Board of Directors, and will be communicated to the Front of House Director by the committee chair.
  • Every volunteer who works for a specific fundraising event, such as a Casino, receives two (2) complimentary tickets to one (1) production of their choice.  Eligible volunteers are determined by the Walterdale member organizing the event.
  • Complimentary tickets can be used for any show of the run, if they are available.
  • Complimentary tickets may be transferred to another individual.
  • Complimentary tickets are held at the Box Office on the night of the relevant performance.
  • Complimentary tickets are managed by the Front-of-House Director(s) FOHD.
  • Cast, crew and production personnel can book their tickets through the Stage Manager or Production Manager, who usually posts a complimentary list in the rehearsal area.  This list must be filled out and delivered to the FOHD at least one week prior to Opening Night.  There are sign-up sheets in the Production Manager Forms & Worksheets sections of this handbook. Changes to your complimentary tickets are to be sent to the FOHD 48 hours prior to the original or new date for your tickets.
  • The Director(s) of the play, or any key artistic role which needs to continually monitor the play, will receive two (2) complimentary tickets and may attend the other performances for free if a ticket is available at the door at curtain time (5 minutes before the show).  The Production Manager will relay to FOH who is allowed to receive this benefit.
  • Board members should try and book their tickets 48 hours in advance through the Director of FOH; however, they may receive their complimentary tickets on the night if tickets are available at curtain time (5 minutes before the show).

Complimentary Ticket Policy for Guests

From time to time individuals help out Walterdale by providing a one-time service such as donating a significant prop, providing legal counsel, or donating other goods and services.  These individuals may receive complimentary tickets to a production, and this can be done by any Board Member or Production Manager who has dealings with the Donor.  The Board Member or PM need not ask the Board as a whole for permission first, but will relate the information at the next Board meeting.  The Board Member or PM must set aside the comps through the Director of FOH.

Discount Ticket Policy For Promotion

From time to time the Directors of Publicity may want to boost the audience attendance by entering into cross-promotional arrangements with businesses or organizations whose interests coincide with the theatre’s.  Using their discretion, the Publicity Directors may develop ticket discounts, including two-for-one promotional deals, and distribute as required.

The Directors of Publicity will provide information about these deals as they are developed, and must provide information to the board at the next immediate board meeting about any deal initiated or undertaken.

The Directors of Publicity may also provide other local theatre company’s ADs with two (2) complimentary tickets to each show.

The Directors of Publicity will not give out any more than 75 tickets in comps and will relay the information about comps given out at the next Board meeting.
