A minor is anyone 15 years of age or under.
As a community theatre, Walterdale encourages the involvement of every volunteer in activities appropriate to their age. In relation to minors, Walterdale recognizes that the responsibility for the wellbeing of a minor volunteer must rest with their parents or guardians, and that neither Walterdale nor our members can accept responsibility in their place. To that end, Walterdale has established the following policy.
Minor volunteers must:
- Have the written consent of their parents or guardians to become involved at the theatre.
- Be a member of the theatre either individually or as part of a family.
- Prove their ability to undertake their duties with minimal or no supervision.
The parents or guardians of a minor volunteer must:
- Guarantee that they will provide transportation both to and from the theatre for their child, and will not rely on public transit or other unsupervised forms of transportation or on the cast or crew of a Walterdale production.
- Spend enough time at the theatre with their child to fully understand the role and responsibilities expected.
- Sign the attached consent and waiver form.
Involvement of the minor is solely at the discretion of the Production Manager of a show or of the Director of the relevant department, and their involvement can be terminated without prejudice at any point. Failing the presence of the Production Manager or of a Director of the Board, the volunteer in charge at the time shall have sole discretion to ask the minor to be picked up by their parents or guardians and removed.
At no time is a minor allowed to assist in set construction or demolition, in lighting hang or painting or any form of activity in which there lies an inherent danger of injury without the immediate supervision of their parent or guardian.
